(KNSI) – The blizzard warning and winter storm warnings posted for much of Minnesota have expired, but are being replaced with a winter weather advisory.

The storm system that pounded the state has moved off to the east, but gusty northwest winds remain in its wake, leading to blowing and drifting snow. That has caused slick roads, bridges and overpasses. Highs today will be in the single digits above zero, but wind chills will be in the teens below zero.

Anyone venturing out today should be prepared not just for slippery roads, but for steps, sidewalks and driveways. The advisory expires at 6:00 p.m.

Governor Tim Walz declared a peacetime emergency on Sunday, deploying the National Guard to help with emergency storm operations. The governor said the severe weather creates serious danger for travelers during one of the busiest times of the year. He thanked the National Guard for helping get stranded drivers to safety.

The Department of Transportation has issued a no travel advisory for all state highways and Interstate 90 in the south-central and southwestern Minnesota.
