(KNSI) – A St. Cloud Technical & Community College student has won $25,000 in equipment for the college’s Auto Body program at one of the car industry’s most prestigious events.

Lucas Kunstleben took first place in the refinishing category at a virtual reality competition held during the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in Las Vegas earlier this month. His win secured a prize package that included a lifetime Skillveri VR/MR license, a paint simulator, and other simulator accessories.

The three-day competition featured VR welding and painting challenges. SCTCC instructor Tyler Kunstleben also placed in the competition, tying for third in the welding category and earning a $9,500 prize package that includes a Skillveri Fundamentals license and premium tool kit.

The show provides students with an up close look at new technology, custom vehicle trends, educational sessions, and networking opportunities with industry professionals.

In all, five program members attended the event. The trip was paid for through fundraising efforts, including the club’s annual car wash.
