(KNSI) – The Stearns County Parks Department is asking cross-country skiers to save the date for a moonlight jaunt around Quarry Park.
The 2026 edition is set for Friday, January 9th, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Parking is free, and participants will have a chance to criss-cross over four miles of lit trails. Staff plan to set up bonfires throughout the park, and stations will hand out treats like s’mores and cookies, along with hot drinks. Raffle prizes are slated to be given away.
Free ski rentals are available at Fitzharris Ski and Sport or Revolution Cycle and Ski. On the night of the event, there will be a ski trailer on site with limited equipment available.
The Moonlight Ski is meant for Nordic skiers and snowshoers. It will transition to a hike if there is not enough of the white stuff. That last happened in 2024. If the wind chill dips below 15 degrees, organizers will cancel the event, which occurred this past January.
