(KNSI) – It was a photo finish on Saturday for the Class A girls’ cross country state team title at the MSHSL meet in Falcon Heights between St. Cloud Cathedral and New London-Spicer.
The teams tied at 97, with the Wildcats winning on the tiebreaker. The MSHSL breaks a tie by using the finishing position of the sixth runner on each team. The Wildcats’ next-best finish was 59th, compared to 64th for the Crusaders. New London-Spicer’s cumulative time on the fairways of Les Bolstad Golf Course clocked in at 1:39:47 compared to 1:40:06.
Central Minnesota shone in the individual meet, as well. St. John’s Prep’s Margaret Duffy, just a junior, completed the 3.1-mile race over 19 seconds faster than any other competitor. Duffy broke the tape at 17:55.5, ahead of Audrey Brownell from Staples-Motley and Charlotte Meyer of Loyola-Cleveland-St. Clair.
