(KNSI) — Minnesota Democrats are maintaining control of the state senate.
In District 29, which covers Wright, Meeker and Hennepin counties, Republican Michael Holmstrom, Jr. is headed to St. Paul after defeating DFLer Louis McNutt. The seat was open following the death of longtime Republican Senator Bruce Anderson, who died earlier this year at the age of 75.
With 100% of precincts reporting, Democrat Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger claimed victory in District 47, filling the seat vacated after disgraced former DFL Senator Nicole Mitchell resigned following her conviction on felony burglary charges.
With both seats remaining in their respective parties’ control, Democrats retain their one-vote majority in the chamber.
