(KNSI) – St. Cloud’s annual winter parking restrictions take effect Saturday, November 1st, and will remain in place through April 1st, regardless of snowfall.
The restrictions are designed to keep roadways safe by allowing proper snow removal, according to Luke Langner, Public Services Director for the City of St. Cloud.
Langner explained to KNSI News that the restrictions help prevent parked vehicles from impeding their work. “As snow continues to encroach into the parking, parked vehicles encroach into the driving lanes. And so, that’s the reason for the odd-even parking.”
Violators will face consequences. The St. Cloud Police Department will enforce the parking regulations with fines; however, immediate action will be taken during snow emergencies. “Our police department will enforce and tow parked vehicles in accordance with the parking regulations. All those costs associated and expenses associated with the towing and impounding are the responsibility of the vehicle owner.”
During declared snow emergencies, vehicles will be cited and towed immediately. Snow emergencies last 72 hours but can be terminated early if conditions improve.
The city has three main types of parking restrictions.
Odd/Even Parking: In designated areas, residents cannot park on the street between 1:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. If your house number ends in an even number, you cannot park between that time on even-numbered calendar days. If your address ends in an odd number, you cannot park on odd-numbered days.
Seasonal Parking Ban: In certain areas, no parking is allowed on either side of the street between 1:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.
Downtown/Central Business District: No parking on streets between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Langner also reminded residents to keep garbage cans in driveways or boulevards, not in the street, to avoid interference with snowplows.
Residents can find specific information about which restrictions apply to their neighborhood by reviewing the 700 series of the city ordinance code or by clicking here.
