(KNSI) – Leighton Media’s 99.9 Lite FM and Primerica Financial Services will be helping the local Salvation Army Corps kick off its Red Kettle campaign on Friday, November 7th.

Primerica Senior Regional Leader Spencer Linn says they plan to turn the Coborn’s on 1st Street South in Sauk Rapids into a winter wonderland that gets everyone in the mood for Christmas. “We’ll have over 500 cookies out there that night, and we’re gonna have hot chocolate, coffee, [and] Christmas music [provided by 99.9 Lite FM] will be at both entrances of the store.”

The event runs from 5:00 to 7:00. All donations stay local, helping the St. Cloud Salvation Army operate its homeless shelter and food bank, provide disaster relief, and support a host of secondary programs. The campaign runs until Christmas Eve with kettles set up at stores across the St. Cloud metro area.

Primerica Regional Vice President Joyce Linn expects the bond between the two organizations will continue to strengthen, as both Primerica and the Salvation Army are actively involved in improving financial literacy and helping avoid money emergencies. “We love the partnership we have with Salvation Army, and we will always continue doing it to give back, and every piece we can do, it continues to build upon that.”

The Red Kettle Campaign is the Salvation Army’s largest fundraiser, amounting to about one-third of its annual total. Last year’s goal was $170,000.
