(KNSI) — A 41-year-old Albany woman was cited Saturday after the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says she started a grass fire in a pasture behind her home.
According to the sheriff’s office, they were called to a grass fire in a pasture on County Road 156 about 12:40 p.m. The caller said the fire was moving quickly toward neighboring houses. Albany and Avon Fire Departments were sent to the scene. They got the fire under control and fully out before any homes or buildings were damaged.
The homeowner, Kasy Jensen, said she started a fire in a firepit while cooking maple syrup. It was windy at the time, and a neighboring field and swamp caught fire. She said she was unable to put the fire out with a hose that she kept nearby.
Jensen was issued a citation for burning during a burning ban.
