(KNSI) – St. Cloud will take the results of a community survey gathered over the summer and begin to overhaul its Comprehensive Plan at a public meeting on Tuesday.
The goal of the effort is to reimagine downtown, which has been the focus of now-retired Mayor Dave Kleis and current officeholder Jake Anderson. Starting in March, the city posted a questionnaire for residents, business owners, property owners, developers, and others to gauge their perception of the importance of various amenities to a successful downtown.
A workshop was then held in May in at city hall. The site went so far as to give people an interactive mapping tool so they could design their customized version of what downtown should look like. The council received its first update in June, which revealed that most people want to see a sports arena as the anchor, accompanied by historic façade improvements, more waterfront development, a grocery store, and enhanced lighting and beautification efforts.
The Comprehensive Plan is being updated for the first time since 2015. Tuesday’s meeting is scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the River’s Edge Convention Center.
