(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Youth Hockey Association presented a $100,000 check to the city on Monday evening for naming rights to the dry land training space at the Municipal Athletic Complex.
“It takes generous folks in our community to make things happen, right? We always talk about private and public partnerships and how we can do more together,” said Mayor Jake Anderson, who spoke at the presentation.
The money will support the 14,000-square-foot expansion at the MAC, of which around 4,000 square feet will be dedicated to the dry land training facility.
The space is expected to provide facilities that will benefit not only hockey players but athletes from various sports throughout the community.
Anderson emphasized the safety benefits of the new training facilities. “That dry land training is good for safety, strength, and conditioning. And by safety, I mean, if kids are more in shape, if young folks are more in shape, they’re less likely to get injured.”
Council members praised the hockey association’s long-standing commitment to youth in the community, with some noting they have personally witnessed multiple generations of families participating in the program.
