(KNSI) – As flu season approaches, CentraCare is trying to make getting protected as easy as picking up fast food.
The medical provider is taking flu vaccine appointments for anyone aged six months and older and has a couple of options for getting the vaccine. That includes dedicated flu shot clinics and drive-thru events.
Drive-thru flu vaccine clinics will be held on certain Saturdays, starting this week, at CentraCare Plaza in St. Cloud at the Meadows Entrance. Patients can stay in their car while nurses give them the vaccine. The others are scheduled for September 27th, October 4th, October 11th, and October 18th, all running from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
While appointments are preferred for the drive-thru clinics, they aren’t necessary.
New this year, CentraCare is introducing Fluad, a specialized influenza vaccine designed for patients 65 and older. The enhanced vaccine will also be available at the drive-thru clinic locations.
Health officials stress the importance of getting vaccinated by the end of October, before peak illness season begins. The flu vaccine requires approximately two weeks for the body to develop full immunity against the influenza virus.
CentraCare officials emphasize that getting vaccinated early not only protects individuals and their families but also helps safeguard the broader community from seasonal illness outbreaks.
Patients can schedule their flu vaccine appointments online by clicking here or by calling CentraCare Connect at 320-200-3200.
