(KNSI) – Friends of fowl are trying to organize in St. Cloud to help the ducks at Lake George.

The birds flock to the sand beach, which happens to be a popular fishing spot. Jodi Johnson has personally witnessed ducks walking with a limp after stepping on a lure. Others have been hooked near their bill. She says sometimes fishermen will cast overtop the wildlife and then have the line get tangled up.

She is asking the community to band together to help rehabilitate injured wildlife. There are a variety of ways to help get her organization, Just Save 1 Duck, afloat. “I would like the community to help me with this nonprofit organization. I want to go based on donations, volunteers, and I would like to go with veterinarians to help us if we do find an injured duck.”

Johnson has significant wildlife rescue experience in the Twin Cities area. She has rescued over 350 animals dating back to the mid-2000s. “I’ve done this before, and I’ve started it in St. Paul, and I was also in the wildlife room at Golden Valley Humane Society, there.”

Johnson is hoping for a hard launch Just Save 1 Duck in central Minnesota come spring. A link for the organization’s Facebook page is here.
