(KNSI) –
The Stearns County Parks Department shut down Swim Quarry Two at Quarry Park and Nature Preserve for facility upgrades on Monday.
The closure had originally been scheduled for September 2nd, but it was pushed back. Swim Quarry Two, also known as Melrose Deep Seven, reaches around 130 feet in depth. It is liked by daredevils who leap from the rocky cliffs into the water below.
The shutdown will allow for a new viewing area to be built. Officials are also planning to widen trails near the quarry and build a retaining wall to help with erosion.
Swim Quarry 11 is still open. That spot is shallower and preferred by families.
