(KNSI) – Drivers in the area should be aware of new traffic restrictions starting today on 22nd Street South.
Beginning Monday, September 8th, traffic along 22nd Street South between Cooper Avenue South and Oak Grove Road will be controlled by flaggers as utility crews begin planned infrastructure work.
The flagging operation will be limited to active work zones when possible, though delays should be expected intermittently throughout the work period. The project is scheduled to continue through early November.
This utility work is in preparation for a major 2026 construction project that will rebuild and widen the entire stretch of 22nd Street South from County Road 136 to Cooper Avenue South. The upcoming reconstruction will include upgrades to sanitary sewer lines, water mains, and storm drainage systems.
Contractors say they’ll work to minimize traffic impacts, but drivers are encouraged to plan for extra travel time or consider alternate routes during the two-month flagging period.
