(KNSI) — Golfers in the St. Cloud area are getting ready to tee off for a good cause next Monday at the 12th annual Tee It Up for the Troops tournament at St. Cloud Country Club.

Over the past 11 years, golfers have raised more than $250,000 for local veterans dealing with the aftermath of military service. Last year alone, organizers pulled in a record $32,000.

Half of the money raised stays local to fund veteran programs in the St. Cloud area. The tournament has spread its donations around to several local groups over the years, including Eagle’s Healing Nest in Sauk Centre, the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans, and veteran resource centers at both St. Cloud State and St. Cloud Technical & Community College. The other half goes to the national Tee It Up for the Troops organization based in Burnsville.

The national group has been at this since 2005 and has raised over $18 million across more than 40 states. They focus on six areas: housing, family support, PTSD and brain injuries, suicide prevention, employment, and sports therapy programs.

The August 25th event kicks off with lunch and an opening ceremony, followed by 18 holes of golf and a silent auction. Anyone interested in joining or making a donation can reach Gen. Robert Corley at 612-889-4739 or corleybob@gmail.com.

“We appreciate how this gathering draws great participation from community members whose generosity helps improve the lives of local heroes with injuries that are often unseen,” said Gen. Robert Corley, who co-chairs the event with Mike and Kathie Wendel, and Col. Christopher Berg (U.S. Air Force, retired). “We’re honored that many current and past military members will also be here with us.”
