(KNSI) – A familiar face will be acting as project manager when Cold Spring renovates its city hall next year.
Donlar Construction, the same firm that oversaw the fire hall build, was picked at a special session of the city council Wednesday night. Administrator Kris Dockendorf expects the decision to jump start the planning process. “Now that Donlar has been chosen, we’ll be getting them involved in the process too, and I’m not sure how long design will take. I’m assuming we’ll start construction sometime in 2026.”
The work will be done in two phases, allowing the library to stay put for the time being. Eventually, it will move out like the fire department and all that is left will be administration and the police department.
Three finalists had 45 minutes each on Wednesday to make their cases for being selected as project manager. Dockendorf talks about how the finalists were chosen from a flood of initial applications. “We have a committee, a building committee. It’s made up of two council members, two administrative staff, two police employees, and a citizen rep.”
The hiring of Donlar was the only item on the agenda for Wednesday’s special meeting. The council’s next regular session is August 13th.
