(KNSI) – Northstar Link service between St. Cloud and Big Lake will end on January 2nd, 2026.

The move is a reaction to the Metro Transit Board’s decision to replace the commuter rail service that linked the heart of the Twin Cities with outer ring suburbs. Instead of trains, bus service will run within Hennepin County, cutting off Big Lake and Elk River.

That will make bus service between St. Cloud and those stations a moot point. In a press release, Metro Bus says participating counties and other stakeholders of the Northstar Link service “determined they were not willing to fund service to Big Lake if there was no connection to the Twin Cities.”
