(KNSI) – The School of Rock music education program will celebrate 20 years of teaching students music during a concert this week at the Paramount Theatre in downtown St. Cloud.

The show is on Thursday, August 7th at 7:00 p.m. and tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students. In honor of the anniversary, a slideshow and numerous pictures will be displayed, accompanied by historical information in the lobby for visitors to explore.

Young musicians have been hard at work over the last two weeks learning their instruments and how to play together in a band. Co-directors Libby Bell and Anna Bovitz act as both teachers and mentors to the groups. Bovitz explained to KNSI News how the bands pick their songs. “We give them a suggestions list. We’re not requiring them to pick from that list because this isn’t just about putting on a good show for the audience. This is also for the students to play music that they love.”

They encourage the bands to pick one song that’s a crowd pleaser, and they can pick one song that they really like.

For those taking the stage, Bell says the more in the crowd, the better. “It really helps give students confidence when we have a full crowd and they have lots of support.”

To show up and salute those about to rock, tickets can be found at the Paramount box office or by clicking here.
