(KNSI) – The Acting U.S. Attorney for Minnesota announced a new round of guilty pleas in the Feeding Our Future scandal, with one of those connected to a site in Waite Park.
Hamdi Hussein Omar pleaded guilty before Judge Nancy Brasel on August 1st. She was connected to Salim Said, who was convicted in a trial earlier this year. The 29-year-old is accused of lying about serving half a million meals out of a small market in a strip mall. She created a shell organization called Feeding Our Youth to lend legitimacy to phony attendance rosters. Neither the names nor the ages of the children listed could be verified.
Omar and her conspirators were accused of bilking taxpayers for $1.4 million. Omar pleaded guilty to a lone count of wire fraud.
The other two guilty pleas were filed by 46-year-old Mahad Ibrahim and 51-year-old Hibo Salah Daar.
Special Agent in Charge Alvin Winston, Sr., hailed the results. “The Federal Bureau of Investigation takes immense pride in its pivotal role in securing 50 convictions to date, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to holding accountable those who illicitly appropriate funds meant for the nourishment of underprivileged children.”
He adds, “Taxpayers are entitled to assurance that their contributions will be utilized in a responsible and lawful manner. These three guilty pleas underscore the gravity with which the FBI addresses fraud perpetrated against the government.”
The total number of convictions related to Feeding Our Future is now over 50 people.
