(KNSI) — A lithium-ion battery is likely to blame for a Sunday afternoon house fire in St. Cloud.

According to a critical incident report, crews were called to the 1100 block of 9th Avenue North around 1:45 and arrived to find flames visible from the front of the home. They knocked down the fire from the outside before making their way inside to put the rest of the fire out. Streets were closed for a few hours until everything was cleaned up.

No one was hurt.

Investigators say the battery that was charging yard equipment inside the house failed, sparking the blaze. Fire Marshal Brian Kiffmeyer says lithium-ion batteries for e-bikes, yard tools, and similar devices should be charged in well-ventilated outdoor areas or garages, rather than indoors.
