(KNSI) — An investigation into the death of a baby in a Big Lake home shows the child was living in a filthy, cluttered home full of black mold and died from bacterial meningitis.
According to investigators, they were called to a home around 8:00 a.m. Friday on the 5500 block of Aberdeen Way for a medical emergency involving an unresponsive infant. Life-saving measures were taken, but the child, identified by authorities as Gideon Peter Mwangi, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Signs at the property say the house is unliveable and is condemned.
Neighbors are telling us there were other children in the home that were removed, and adults were escorted off the property.
No charges have been filed.
Bacterial meningitis is a serious infection of the membranes in the brain and spinal cord, and several types of bacteria, including strep, E. coli and Listeria can cause it.
