(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Area Family YMCA is celebrating after St. Cloud Financial Credit Union announced it will chip in $420,000 to support the Y’s construction of a new state-of-the-art outdoor water park.

The YMCA is currently in the planning stages for the water park project, which officials say will address a long-standing community need for outdoor aquatic recreation facilities. The funding comes amid a final push to raise the remaining funds needed for the new outdoor aquatics center. The Y has raised nearly $11 million over the past three years of the estimated $15 million needed. However, it still needs additional commitments to reach its total project goal and is facing a looming Labor Day deadline to avoid rising construction costs.

“This commitment in support of the new outdoor water park is important to SCFCU because it is an investment into the future of St. Cloud and the surrounding communities we are proud to serve,” said Jed Meyer, SCFCU President and CEO. “Together, we can build a better tomorrow throughout the community, and we are proud to support the YMCA in that shared mission.”

“This new state-of-the-art water park fulfills a long-time desire in our community and will only help strengthen our community,” said Greg Gack, Executive Director of St. Cloud Area Family YMCA. “We are thankful for St. Cloud Financial Credit Union’s partnership in this project and their shared commitment to investing in our community.”

As part of the partnership, SCFCU and the YMCA will also collaborate to provide birthday party experiences at the facility for children and families.
