(KNSI) – A Minnesota lobbyist has been charged with making felony threats of violence toward public officials at the State Capitol, according to charges filed Friday in Carver County District Court.
Jonathan Bohn, who serves as public affairs director for the Inter Faculty Organization, allegedly sent threatening text messages just days after four Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses were victims of gun violence. As a registered lobbyist, Bohn has regular access to the State Capitol, which authorities say made his alleged threats particularly concerning.
The timing of the threats has heightened concerns among law enforcement and Capitol security. The Inter Faculty Organization represents faculty at seven Minnesota State universities, advocating for academic freedom, student success and public higher education funding. Bohn has been placed on administrative leave from his position.
The case began Wednesday when a Waconia resident contacted authorities about threatening messages he had received from Bohn. According to the criminal complaint, the victim said he hadn’t spoken with Bohn in a “considerable amount of time due to political differences.” The victim told authorities he was particularly alarmed by the explicit nature of the threats, which included:
“Today I bought 500 bullets. I can’t wait to shoot one of you [expletive] in the face.”
“Excited to have my gun at the capitol and blow somebody’s [expletive] face off.”
“I can’t wait to pop [one of] you [expletive] in the head.”
A statement from Bohn’s representatives says he condemns violence in all forms and regrets the language he used.
Bohn made his first court appearance Friday morning and is scheduled to return to court on August 27th.
