(KNSI) – Avon is feeling spunky this weekend as its annual summer celebration takes over Wobegon Park.
This year’s Avon Spunktacular Days theme is “Let’s Play Ball!” Fox 9 broadcasted on Wednesday as part of their Town Ball Tour as the Avon Lakers battled St. Wendel at Blattner Field. The bulk of the activities are Friday evening and Saturday, though.
The Avon Lions will host their 6th Annual Car Show Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Stroll among classic American hot rods and muscle cars, taking in the sleek chrome and the purr of a V-8 or even V-10 engine. Then make a pit stop at the food court.
On the menu are burgers, corndogs, popcorn, and other traditional fair fare. Mixed in are some unique options like cordon bleu bites, homemade ice cream, and other desserts. The Lions will also have a beer garden open. The band Steel Rail will play in the park from 8:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Girl Scout Troop 132 will keep the kids entertained from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, hit the pavement for a 5K or 1K run/walk at 8:00 a.m. before the heat builds. Registration is available same day from 7:00 to 7:45 a.m. The entrance fee is $30. Bikers and rollerbladers will take to the Lake Wobegon Trail for the Lady Slipper Nature Ride from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m.
The food court and beer gardens reopen as shoppers shuffle through the stalls at the craft fair. The Avon Lakers town ball squad is the grand marshals for the parade, stepping off at 7:00 p.m., and Crash Course provides the music starting at 8:30. They’ll pause for the fireworks show at dusk.
Spunktacular shines when it comes to family fun. A kids’ fishing contest is scheduled for Saturday morning at 9:30 at Middle Spunk Lake. A family fun zone with a petting zoo, pony rides, inflatables, turtle races, and face painting is in full gear from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
