(KNSI) – After two decades of fighting fires and serving his community, Brent Ambuehl has achieved what he once thought impossible – becoming a fire chief.
Ambuehl began his new role in Sartell last week and will be officially sworn in during the June 23rd city council meeting. The veteran firefighter brings extensive experience to the position, having served as an emergency medical technician and member of the Little Falls Fire Department for 20 years, where he rose to the rank of assistant chief. He also retired from active duty in the Minnesota National Guard in 2021.
Speaking with KNSI News, Ambuehl couldn’t contain his excitement about the opportunity. “Being a fire chief was always my dream job, but nothing I thought was in the cards. I can’t tell you how excited I was to find out I was selected.”
As the new chief, Ambuehl emphasizes that the safety of firefighters, staff, and the community will always be his top priority. His motivation comes from a genuine desire to help others during their most difficult moments. “I just really love helping the public. It’s something that I truly enjoy. I don’t want bad things to happen to people, but I want to be there with my skill set on their worst day. I want to help them through that.”
Ambuehl recognizes the significant responsibility that comes with his new position. He views leading the team responsible for community safety as a privilege and an honor, a role he doesn’t take lightly.
Outside of his professional duties, Ambuehl is a family man. He and his wife Courtney have a son named Gavin, who currently serves in the military. They also have a dog.
The new fire chief is eager to connect with the community he now serves. He plans to drive a fire department vehicle in this Saturday’s Summerfest Parade, and is looking forward to meeting more residents and building relationships.
