(KNSI) – An accident involving a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix and a semi truck west of Melrose has left two young women fighting for their lives.

The worst hurt was the passengers in the Grand Prix, both in their early 20s. The car was being driven by a Melrose woman. It was headed west on County Road 186, which is controlled by a stop sign. It entered the intersection with Highway 4 and collided with a southbound semi truck driven by a 22-year-old man from Brownton.

The two women with life-threatening injuries were flown to Sanford Health Fargo for treatment. The driver of the Grand Prix went to CentraCare – Sauk Centre with non-life-threatening injuries. The semi driver was not hurt. The accident happened just after noon on Wednesday.
