(KNSI) — The Stearns County Household Hazardous Waste Facility experienced an unprecedented turnout during its recent electronic waste collection event, with participation far exceeding expectations.

Officials say 709 vehicles made their way through the facility, typically representing a month’s worth of traffic. The overwhelming response from residents resulted in a steady stream of cars arriving every 45 seconds throughout the event, creating a nonstop flow of visitors eager to get rid of their e-waste.

By the end of the day, organizers had filled four semi-trailers with items ranging from outdated computers and televisions to smaller devices like cell phones and gaming systems.

The event drew participants from across the region, with 83% of attendees being Stearns County residents.
