(KNSI) – Aviation and history enthusiasts will have a rare opportunity to experience the golden age of air travel when the Experimental Aircraft Association’s historic Ford Tri-Motor lands at St. Cloud Regional Airport next month.

Dubbed the “Tin Goose,” it was considered the epitome of aviation luxury in the late 1920s and early 1930s. This particular model is one of only 199 that the Ford Motor Company built and first took to the skies in August 1929. After serving routes in Cuba and the Dominican Republic, it returned to the U.S. in 1949, where it played multiple roles, including barnstorming and even firefighting. The aircraft has also tasted Hollywood fame, appearing in Jerry Lewis’ 1965 comedy The Family Jewels and the 2009 film Public Enemies starring Johnny Depp.

Today, fewer than ten Tri-Motors remain airworthy, creating a unique opportunity for the public to climb aboard and catch a flight on an authentic piece of aviation history.

Every seat is by a window, providing a panoramic view of the St. Cloud area during the 30-minute experience, including 15 minutes in the air. Tickets are $105 for adults and $85 for children aged 17 and under. The flights take off from June 20th through the 22nd. The St. Cloud EAA Chapter hosts the layover, with a portion of the proceeds supporting their local youth and education programs.
