(KNSI) – A busy southeastern Stearns County highway is closing for two months beginning on June 2nd.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation will spend $860,000 to resurface the Clearwater River Bridge deck, replace paneling and joints on the approach, and upgrade the bridge railing. Local traffic will still be able to use Highway 55 to the east and west of the bridge, but a detour will be set up for those trying to pass through.
Drivers will need to use County Road 44 in Kimball and then make a turn in Fairhaven at County Road 7, which becomes County Road 2 when you pass over into Wright County from Stearns. A temporary four-way stop will be installed at the intersection of CR 44 and CR 7.
Even when on the detour and navigating around the work site, drivers should be on watch for workers and equipment. Be ready to slow down if necessary to keep everyone safe.
MnDOT says the bridge work will make the span smoother and require fewer upkeep costs in the future.
