(KNSI) – The Waite Park City Council will have a work session and regular meeting Monday that will include a discussion on changing how long the mayor serves.

The current term is for two years, but many surrounding cities allow a mayor to serve for four years at a time. A potential adjustment will be discussed to bring Waite Park in line with others.

Mayor Ken Schmitt also plans to present on the possibility of dissolving the Civil Service Board. The group is made up of three people and has a say in hiring certain municipal employees. The council cannot take action on items brought up during the work session.

During the regular meeting, the council will have a chance to approve the first bid package for preliminary work on the city hall expansion. Bradbury Stamm, the project manager, has submitted a $4,592,857 package for selective demolition and the installation of precast panels.

If the council okays the package, the panels would be put in this fall, likely in October. A bid package for the majority of the work is expected in July, with a third and final package likely set to go before the council late this year. Construction is expected to wrap up in the second half of 2026.
