(KNSI) – Two evenings of fine food and fun raised more than $45,000 to give preschoolers the gift of literacy.

The United Way of Central Minnesota Imagination Library Progressive Dinner tallied the total from the events held in Sartell and St. Cloud. Organizers say 171 guests got to dine on 16 styles of cuisine prepared by local chefs and hosted in a wide range of homes.

The themed meals included an ode to the Christmas season and the Harry Potter novels.

Imagination Library encourages children to develop a love of reading by providing a free, age-appropriate book to every child participating in the program each month from birth until their fifth birthday.
