(KNSI) — The St. Cloud City Council will host a series of public hearings to consider redevelopment proposals that could revitalize two vacant buildings and a soon-to-be vacated space.

One hearing will address a plan to convert the St. Cloud State University Welcome Center into 16 studio apartments after the school opted not to renew its lease. The proposal involves transforming a 12,000-square-foot portion of Coborn’s Plaza in downtown. The developers are requesting a planned unit development to make the change.

Another will focus on the former Tim Hortons building, where developers are also seeking a PUD. While the property is currently zoned for restaurant or office use, they’re asking for flexibility to change it into something new.

The council will also hear input on a request to rezone two lots at 14 and 16 McLeland Road — the site of the old Fingerhut building near the St. Cloud VA — from I3-industrial to C5-commercial. The owners plan to open a go-kart facility that could include bowling, simulators, and restaurants.

All three received approval from the city’s planning commission last month, but the council has the final say.

In addition to the public hearings, the council will consider whether to allocate $25,822 from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant toward the purchase of an electric vehicle for the city’s information and technology services department. The total cost of the vehicle is $52,015, plus tax and registration.

The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.
