(KNSI) – The Sabres Archery team completed its meteoric rise from fledgling program to national champions in just three years’ time at a pair of competitions earlier this month.

The group is made up of 4th and 5th graders, the youngest archers in the district. Head Coach Bob Brezinka says they finished in 2nd in bullseye but came out on top in 3D. “That was the best score that we’ve ever had for bullseye, and one of our best scores for 3D. We also did the Centershot Ministries tournament while we were there, and brought back the national championship in both of the events, bullseye and 3D.”

The Sabres made the National Archery in Schools Program Western Nationals last year, placing fourth. Brezinka thinks having that experience under their belt helped them reach even greater heights in 2025. Individual scores can be found here.

Brezinka says the results are due to hard work. “For our team, we practice bullseye, the traditional target face, two nights per week for 50 minutes, and then we have one 3D practice a week for an hour.”

The season runs from December to April.

Central Minnesota as a whole has quickly rocketed to the top of the youth archery scene nationwide, both in scores and participation. Sartell’s squad boasts 97 members. Foley and Becker are both in the triple digits. There are top notch facilities and the St. Cloud area hosted the state championship a year ago.

Not since Cupid was there such excitement for a bow and arrow.
