(KNSI) – Work is underway for a large-scale road reconstruction project in Sartell.

Similar to what was done on Cooper Avenue in St. Cloud a couple of years ago, the streets affected will be completely rebuilt with new curbs and gutters. Sewer, stormwater, and water utility lines are set to be installed before the roads are resurfaced.

The bulk of the work will occur just to the north and west of the DeZURIK plant. It will start next to the Sartell-St. Stephen School District offices. A complete reconstruction is planned for 2nd Street North from 1st Avenue to 4th Avenue, 3rd Avenue from 2nd Street to 5th Street, 4th Avenue between 2 1/2 Street and 4th Street, 3rd Street for a couple of blocks starting at 3rd Avenue, and 4th Street near 5th Avenue. 4th Street between Riverside Avenue and 3rd Avenue will be getting a mill and overlay. Crews will repave 3rd Avenue North from 4th Street to 5th Street. The same block of 1st Avenue North is also up for a mill and overlay.

Complete reconstruction starts up again on 1st and 2nd Avenues from 5th Street North to 7th Street North, along with 6th Street between Riverside and 2nd Avenue.

The project covers a strip of 1st Street North that snakes over to the eastern reaches of Lions Community Park. That portion will also include a pair of small offshoots, namely a small segment of 7th Avenue North and Terry Lane.

The last segment of the project is Sartell Street near the Watab River. A stretch from Riverside to 4th Avenue is affected.

A public input survey was first done to set the scope of the work back in August 2023. The project is scheduled for completion in early 2026. The cost is $16 million.
