(KNSI) – With more snow in the forecast, St. Cloud’s Public Works Department is reminding homeowners and property owners about the city ordinance requiring the removal of snow from sidewalks or face a fine.
City ordinance requires the sidewalk in front of properties to be shoveled within 24 hours after flakes stop flying. Sidewalks must remain cleared the full width for pedestrians. Officials say snow on sidewalks creates a significant safety issue because it forces people to walk on the road. Failure to do so may result in snow and ice getting removed by the city. Property owners are billed for removal and unpaid bills will be added to property tax statements.
Snow from parking lots and driveways cannot be dumped on sidewalks. Instead, it should be piled in the yard and boulevard. Failing to do so could result in a $250 fine per incident.
Central Minnesota got around two inches of snow Sunday night and into Monday morning. Another inch or more of snow is expected Wednesday night and more may be on the horizon for this weekend.
