(KNSI) – Some view winter as something to flee, but event planners in northern cities like St. Cloud increasingly recognize it as a draw that can lure visitors.
St. Cloud Downtown Alliance Director Rachel Lolmasteymaugh says for those who make the trek to central Minnesota for Bold and Bright this weekend, the fun they will have often turns into a viral social media moment.
“People will come here; they want to feel the cold, they want to see the snow. We have ice sculptures that will be out. That is a huge draw! The amount of selfies that come from those ice sculptures. And what is great is we can go back on social media and see them posted all over for people just coming to the event.”
Bold and Bright starts Friday with an art crawl. On Saturday, there will be everything from curling on Lake George to a maker’s market and a lighted parade. A special emphasis is being placed on family-friendly entertainment.
The Paramount Center for the Arts is showing the film “Happy Feet” for free at 2:00 p.m. Lolmasteymaugh encourages you to stick around for a second kid-centric event.
“At 4:00, you can come in to the lobby of the Paramount and meet all the local mascots. I’m talking about the Texas Roadhouse armadillo, Blizzard, Chisel from the Rox. We have the dairy princess from Minnesota.”
Sunday is Game Day. Several downtown businesses will host trivia, putt-putt, and even Magic The Gathering. The full schedule is available here.
