(KNSI) – Young Leonardos and Picasos recently got a boost for art supplies in exchange for designing the Christmas card of a local business.

For the last three years, Granite City Tire and Auto has used the artwork and design of the first and second graders at Pine Meadow Elementary in Sartell. The cards are sent to nearly 900 of their loyal customers.

After sifting through over 100 submissions, General Manager Jesse Nelson selected a drawing of a Christmas bulb ornament with a snowman inside. The tire and auto store gave the art program $1,100 for their creativity. General Manager Jesse Nelson told KNSI News what the art department did with last year’s donation. “They can use that money for whatever they want, in terms of art supplies or special projects. I know, last year they did some glow-in-the-dark paint, and the class was able to do a bunch of projects with that.”

Nelson told KNSI News why he feels it’s important to do things like this, “I think community involvement is very important, being in contact with the community. Also, I have four children, so I like to try to be involved with where they’re going to school and try to provide things to make art class a little cooler for the kids.”

He’s not sure what the plans are for this year’s donation.
