(KNSI) – A financial comparison website has ranked Minnesota as the second-best state to raise a family.
WalletHub compared the 50 states across 50 key indicators. The data includes the median annual family income, housing affordability, health care quality, crime rate, and school quality.
The Land of 10,000 Lakes got high marks for having the second lowest percentage of families in poverty, second highest median family income ($104,000 when adjusted for cost of living), fifth lowest number of parents who get divorced, fifth lowest in child-care cost, and tenth best for infant mortality rate.
Minnesota had its lowest scores in cost for education and child care, at 18th, and family fun, at 15th. The rankings show that the cost of raising a child to age 18 is over $300,000.
Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Dakota, Nebraska and New Hampshire finished in the top five. Oklahoma, Nevada, West Virginia, Mississippi, and New Mexico were the bottom five states. Click here for the complete rankings.
