(KNSI) – St. Cloud area Senator Aric Putnam announced the newly renamed Committee on Agriculture, Veterans, Broadband, and Rural Development will also establish a dedicated Subcommittee on Veterans as part of its agenda when the new legislative session begins on Tuesday, January 14th.

A press release from Putnam’s office says he is, “honored to serve as chair of the Senate’s Agriculture, Veterans, Broadband and Rural Development Committee, and to formalize the Subcommittee on Veterans as a dedicated space for Veterans issues across the state. I sought this role because it provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with the Department of Veterans Affairs and our veterans to craft meaningful legislation that will directly benefit Minnesota veterans. As someone who has been shaped by growing up in a military family, with a deep military history that spans WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, I have a deep respect for those who serve and protect our country. I represent thousands of veterans, and I am eager to get to work to ensure that our veterans receive the care, respect, and support they’ve earned, and that they deserve.”

Over the past two years as Chair of the Agriculture Committee, Senator Putnam has convened more than 80 meetings across Minnesota with farmers, agricultural groups, and rural and business leaders, focusing on the critical role agriculture plays in the state’s economy and culture. He says he plans to bring the same collaborative approach to his new role.

Senator Putnam will serve as Chair of the Subcommittee on Veterans, with additional members to be announced soon. Membership will not be limited to those serving on the broader Agriculture Committee.
