(KNSI) – An open house has been set for a road crossing in Waite Park that is about to get a new look.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation plans to install a J-turn at the intersection between Highway 23 and Bel Clare Drive and a pedestrian crossing in the medians. The public is invited to learn about the plans during an open house on January 14th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Waite Park Public Works building. Attendees will have the opportunity to visit with project staff, view design layouts and ask questions.
MnDOT says the project’s goal is to improve safety at the intersection. According to the state, J-turns reduce serious and fatal crashes caused by “T-bone” crashes. Nine serious crashes have occurred at the site over the last five years.
Work on the $1.2 million project is scheduled to start and be completed in 2027.
