(KNSI) — The public is invited to a retirement party for outgoing St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis, who will be taking a bow on his roughly two-decade tenure.
The party is Tuesday, December 3rd, at 5:00 p.m. at the Rivers Edge Convention Center. There is no word if there are plans to present him with a gold watch or, perhaps more appropriately, a key to the city.
Kleis was raised in Litchfield and graduated Magna Cum Laude from St. Cloud State University with a degree in Political Science and History and served in the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserve. He started and has owned the Central Minnesota Driving Academy since 1991.
Kleis was elected to the Minnesota State Senate in 1994 where he served for 11 years before being elected Mayor in 2005. Voters went with Kleis again in 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020. He ran unopposed in three of his final four contests before announcing in April he wouldn’t seek reelection. Kleis is the longest serving mayor in St. Cloud history.
City council member Jake Anderson was elected to replace him.
