(KNSI) – Minnesota House Republicans say they will challenge the outcome of the House 54A race.
The Scott County Canvassing Board certified the election results, which showed Democratic incumbent Brad Tabke winning by just over a dozen votes over Republican Aaron Paul, even though 21 absentee ballots were missing. House Speaker-designate Lisa Demuth (R-Cold Spring) says there were inconsistencies in reporting, and there may be enough missing votes to potentially sway the election.
Another race in House District 40B is also being contested after Republican candidate Paul Wickstrom challenged the home address of his Democratic opponent Curtis Johnson. Johnson contends he and his wife were renting an apartment in the district while they sold their home in Little Canada, which is not. Wickstrom says the apartment was a sham to make it look as if he lives there because it’s just a studio with no furniture or connected utilities.
As it stands, three seats held by Democrats flipped Republican this election cycle, leaving the House tied with 67 Democrats and 67 Republicans. If both challenges are accepted, it would give the GOP a two seat majority.
