(KNSI) — The Minnesota House will enter the 2025 session with a tie between Democratic and Republican representatives, and now the parties are deciding co-chairs for the new biennium.
Speaker-designates Representative Lisa Demuth (R-Cold Spring) and Melissa Hortman (D-Brooklyn Park) issued a joint statement announcing the choices.
Locally, Representative Tim O’Driscoll (R-Sartell) will co-chair the Commerce Finance and Policy Committee and the Legislative Commission on Pensions and Retirement. Representative Ron Kresha (R-Little Falls) has been named co-chair of the Education Finance Committee. Representative Dan Wolgamott (D-St. Cloud) was chosen for the Higher Education Finance and Policy Committee to co-chair with Representative Marion Rarick (R-Maple Lake). Representative Paul Novotny (R-Elk River), a former Sherburne County Sheriff, will co-chair the Public Safety Finance and Policy Committee.
The state has not had a tie in the House since 1979.
The new session will gavel in at noon on January 14th.
