(KNSI) – A St. Cloud homeless shelter has bought a new building to expand and help more women and families.
Place of Hope Ministries bought the former Ramada Hotel at 121 Park Avenue South in June 2023. The building is being remodeled and turned into the Compassionate Hope Family Center, which will offer shelter for 38 families and 30 single women.
Pastor Carol Jean tells KNSI that when the opportunity arrived, they jumped on it. “We were able to walk into and purchase a facility on the west side of town and add to our capacity of about 30 families we’re able to house right now the way that the building is. And we’re just really excited to be able to add this capacity.”
Pastor Carol says they received a helping hand from above, and everything came together. “We were able to get a few donors who helped us step into a contract for deed, get into this building and just have it be our own.”
Place of Hope is in the middle of a $3 million campaign called Be The Hope. So far, they’ve raised $1.65 million. There is an open house and fundraising event at the new building today. There are tours from 10:30 a.m. to noon. From noon to 1:00 p.m., there is a luncheon with a short presentation for people to hear about the shelter’s expansion. Tours will continue between 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., with dinner and a presentation between 5:30 and 6:30. For more information, call 320-203-7881 or email hope@placeofhopeministires.org
