(KNSI) – It’s Give to the Max Day, an annual bonanza that sees $30 million or more donated to nonprofits across the state.

The event continues to grow, defying charitable trends seen elsewhere since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. Give MN Chief Impact Officer Jenna Ray says it is a reflection of the character of Minnesota residents.

“National trends have indicated charitable giving and individual giving has gone down consistently year over year, and yet, here in Minnesota, we continue to show up for our neighbors. We continue to show up for our nonprofits and schools, and Minnesota continues to be one of the most generous states in the nation.”

Ray believes the event represents a mindset that lasts all year. “One of the things that is really beautiful about Give to the Max is that it brings us all together to not only sort of celebrate this moment in time, but really build a tradition of generosity here in Minnesota.”

Give MN’s model is being copied across the country. Everyone else has a lot of catching up to do. Not only does Give to the Max Day raise over $30 million each year, personal finance website WalletHub ranks our state as the third-most charitable in America. Minnesota is behind only Utah and Wyoming.

WalletHub adds that over a third of residents volunteer time to a charity each year. We are also willing to go out of pocket to help friends and family, saying that, on average, we would lend $300 in a pinch.
