(KNSI) – St. Cloud City Councilman Jake Anderson resigned his seat Monday night as he gets ready to become mayor.

Anderson’s stepping down triggers the process of finding his replacement. The council will take applications until noon on Monday, November 25th, and has elected to only accept applicants from Ward Three, which is the ward Anderson represented. They will also finalize any rules and procedures.

Depending on the number of interested residents, a special meeting could be held on December 2nd. If a new council member isn’t picked by December 18th, Mayor Dave Kleis will appoint someone to fill the seat for the rest of Anderson’s two-year term.

Anderson will be St. Cloud’s first new mayor in 20 years when he is sworn in in January. Kleis announced his retirement in April.
