(KNSI) — It started raining in St. Cloud Monday afternoon and didn’t stop, setting a new record.
According to the National Weather Service, the official rainfall total for November 18th was 1.13″, breaking the old record of .98″ set in 2015. Other areas saw more than that, including just south of Richmond, where 1.67″ was recorded, and southwest of Sartell, where 1.61″ was in the rain gauge. Spots south of St. Cloud and around Cold Spring and Kimball were up over 1.5″.
The rain should eat away some more at the drought conditions we’ve experienced this fall. The last reading taken November 12th at 6:00 a.m. Central showed 99.92% of Minnesota considered at least abnormally dry. Benton, Sherburne and Stearns Counties are between abnormally dry and moderate drought. Three months ago, no areas of the state were considered dry.
The new soil readings were taken this morning, and the report will be available on Thursday.
