(KNSI) — On Monday, several events will be held around town to honor and celebrate Veterans Day.
The St. Cloud Veterans Day Parade will start at 11:00 at the Great River Regional Library downtown and march down West St. Germain Street to the River’s Edge Convention Center. Following the procession, there will be a ceremony at 1:30 at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center’s auditorium inside Building 8.
Today also marks the dedication ceremony for Veterans Rock at the Wilson Park Pavillion, which happens at 3:00. The 13.25-ton granite boulder was painted by former members of all six branches of the U.S. military.
The Minnesota Military and Veterans Museum is debuting a Veterans Day film festival at the Falls Theater in downtown Little Falls. Six short movies will play at 3:00, 4:00, 5:00, and 7:00 p.m. hours. The salute to Minnesota veterans covers World War II, Vietnam, Operation Enduring Freedom, and the profiles of General John Vessey and Lieutenant Colonel Hortense McKay. Vessey was a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. McKay served as a nurse on the frontlines in the Pacific and was honored posthumously with the Congressional Gold Medal. A special dinner is also offered at 6:00 p.m. at Ciao Thyme restaurant next door.
