(KNSI) – A skid steer went up in flames in Melrose Township Saturday afternoon.
The call happened at about 2:10 in the 35000 block of County Road 13. The equipment was being used to move highly flammable corn stalk bales when it ignited.
When firefighters got to the scene, the skid steer was already fully engulfed. They worked quickly to get it under control, but there was an injury. A flaming bale fell off the pile and landed on a firefighter. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says 46-year-old Angel Vargas was taken to Melrose Hospital for treatment.
After that, crews finished extinguishing the fire without another incident.
