UPDATE: Oberg Roofing Tells KNSI News it is Still in the Process of Closing

(KNSI) – In another big hit to downtown St. Cloud, Oberg Roofing and Remodeling is in the process of closing.

Owner Caleb Oberg reached out to KNSI News to tell us that the business is technically still active. All projects that were in the process of being completed when staff was laid off will be finished by Caleb personally.

We were tipped off by customers who received notices from a building product supplier that they had not been paid by Oberg Roofing. KNSI News contacted that supplier who confirmed they sent out a few prelien notices on properties they still had lien rights on. By sending a pre-lien notice, the subcontractor establishes their right to file a mechanic’s lien if they are not paid. A mechanic’s lien is a legal claim that can be filed against a property owner by a contractor, subcontractor or a material supplier if they are not paid for their work.

The supplier confirmed it sent out many notices of nonpayment to alert homeowners the company had not paid them yet. Oberg says he will work with clients to make sure that they have paid as contractually obligated to his business. Once those final steps are taken, then assets and property would be auctioned off to help satisfy outstanding debts that Oberg Roofing has with suppliers and financial institutions.

The business offered a two-year workmanship warranty guaranteeing quality on its projects. Those warranties will dissolve when Oberg Roofing is officially shuttered and customers would not have that protection going forward.
